The Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center offers skating under the twinkling holiday lights (and great views of the Prometheus statue).
While in the city, and if you travel by train, don’t miss the New York Transit Museum’s Eighth Annual Grand Central Holiday Train Show is open.
Operating on a bi-level 34-foot long layout, traveling through a Manhattan cityscape towards Santa’s workshop at the North Pole, visitors will see the latest in the growing fleet of MTA-licensed, Lionel manufactured rolling stock.
The model trains are complete with illuminated interiors, station announcements, end route destination signs, and doors that open and close. As an added bonus, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad railcars will also be included in the layout’s rolling stock.
Offering a close up look at classic trains, Lionel Trains from the Museum’s Lawrence Scripps Collection of Vintage Trains will also be on static display in Plexiglas cases lining the gallery walls.
Admission is free to the exhibit, which runs through Jan. 18, 2010. The New York Transit Museum’s Gallery Annex is located next to the station master’s office and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
