First Sonic Drive-In For Connecticut

Get ready

Sonic is coming to Connecticut this summer.

Having lived in various states that offer Sonic drive-ins, there are times (especially when viewing a cable TV commercial for the company), that a person longs for the experience of driving in to park and order a using a driver-side speaker.

Carhops come out to deliver orders to the vehicle (or customers can also choose to dine in a patio area.) Many years ago in Florida, the eatery offered tiny plastic animals that linked together and they were a local sensation. The idea was to collect the entire series. Each colorful critter came with a milkshake or large drink – perched on the lip of a cup.

A Sonic Drive-In is under construction at 1033 North Colony Rd. in Wallingford, on the former site of the Yankee SIlversmith Restaurant. It will be the first franchise location in the state for the wildly population drive-in.

Robert Mesite, Gina Mesite Mueller, and Ralph Mesite are franchise partners, and they plan to open a series of Sonics.

Sonic, America’s Drive-In (NASDAQ/NM: SONC) started as a hamburger and root beer stand in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla., called Top Hat Drive-In, and then changed its name to Sonic in 1959.

The company has more than 3,500 drive-ins in 42 states coast to coast serving approximately 3 million customers every day.
