A new exhibit at Mystic Seaport tells the story of American tugboats.
Every day tugs move cargo, escort cruise ships, save lives during maritime disasters, conduct environmental clean-ups, and salvage wrecks. Yet the importance of their work goes largely unnoticed by the general public.
The exhibit includes a radio-controlled model tug and workshops, a mock tug bridge, a CAD design work station, and hands-on activities exploring the physics of propulsion.
Made possible to a $149,000 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and leadership support from The Dibner Fund.
